Alzheimer’s care at home

There are many different types of dementia, however Alzheimer’s is the most common form, affecting over half a million people in the UK, and can include memory loss, disorientation and confusion as well as difficulties with thinking, problem-solving and language skills. They may also experience difficulty in completing daily tasks and can experience significant changes in behaviour.

Alzheimer’s care at home works to provide practical support and care for those with the condition in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes while helping them to retain as much control over their lives as possible. The continuity of routine, home environment and one-to-one care and attention from a live-in Alzheimer’s carer can provide profound benefits to quality of life. Here you can find out more about questions you may have, such as “what is Alzheimer’s care at home?”, or how to apply for Alzheimer’s home care for yourself or a loved one.

What is Alzheimer’s care at home?

Clients with Alzheimer’s need a great deal of reassurance and support to help them feel less isolated and more oriented. With full-time one-to-one care in the home with skilled carers, the quality of life, both for those with the condition and for their families, is greatly enhanced. This is a much loved alternative to leaving the familiar surroundings of home and moving into a care facility.

An Alzheimer’s care plan is carefully tailored to the individual needs of the client, including an assessment of specific symptoms that are being experienced. By conducting a full home assessment while working with clients, their families, their GPs and other healthcare professionals, we are able to provide a complete Alzheimer’s care plan that meets the specific needs of the individual.

Our fully trained carers move in to the home of the client living with Alzheimer’s and provide full-time care and support according to the personalised care plan. This allows families to be safe in the knowledge that their relative’s days will be as free of anxiety as possible under the expert care of a patient and understanding professional.

Help around the home

Whilst our carers’ primary focus is on the medical needs of clients, they are also on hand to provide help round the home, helping with basic daily tasks that the client may struggle with whilst giving enough freedom so as to allow them to retain control over their daily lives.
